Superyacht Upholstery, Delivered Inside the Yard Window
On a Superyacht the upholstery is never the constraint. The yard window is.
You have a fixed number of days, a contractor list that is already too long, and a boss or an owner's rep who will be aboard on a date that does not move. What you need from an upholstery shop is not craftsmanship talk. It is a crew that measures once, does not come back with surprises, and hands the vessel back inside the window.
We have been building marine canvas and upholstery since 1974, and a large share of our work is sportfish and yacht refit where the schedule is the whole brief. We run 3D measurement, digital patterning and CNC cutting, which is what makes it possible to pattern a vessel in one visit and fabricate without a second fitting.
Interior, exterior, and crew
- Salon and main deck. Settees, sofas, occasional seating, dining chairs, loose cushions and scatter.
- Sky lounge and flybridge. Helm seating, banquettes, sun pads, weather-exposed lounging.
- Exterior decks. Sun pads, chaises, cockpit and transom seating, foredeck lounging, tender-deck pads.
- Cabins. Berth mattresses and toppers, headboards, bench and window seating, hull-side and headliner panels.
- Crew areas. Mess seating, cabin berths, and the pieces that get deferred every refit until they are the worst thing aboard.
- Bridge and pilothouse. Helm chairs, pilot berths, chart-table seating.
We also build the canvas. Awnings, biminis, weather covers, and Superyacht Sunshades come off the same bench, which means exterior seating and exterior shade can be specified together and actually match.
Matching is easier than re-matching
Most vessels end up with exterior shade from one contractor and exterior seating from another, a season or two apart. Both are competent and the result still looks assembled rather than designed, because two shops matched to the same reference at different times under different light.
Running both through one shop removes that problem. We hold the colour reference, we build to it across canvas and upholstery, and when a piece is replaced in three years it matches what is already aboard rather than approximately matching.
For a captain this is also a scheduling argument. One contractor, one measuring visit, one set of dates, one point of contact, one invoice.
Sunbrella Horizon and PTFE thread as standard
Faces. Sunbrella Horizon is our default on new upholstery work and it is the best marine upholstery material money can buy. Where an owner, designer or management company specifies a particular house fabric, leather or designer textile, we source and build to that instead. We do not substitute quietly.
Thread. PTFE on everything. Ordinary polyester thread degrades under UV faster than the fabric it holds together, which is why so much yacht upholstery opens at the seams while the faces are still presentable. PTFE outlasts the fabric.
Foam. Closed-cell quick-dry on exterior seating with vented and drained bases, so cushions on an exposed deck do not hold water. Interior seating and berth mattresses are specified for comfort and to the intended use of the space.
Every project is quoted as a fixed price with the full specification written out. Fabric, thread, foam, substrate, stitching detail and piece count are all on the document before anything is ordered.
Dockside, in yard, or shipped to the vessel
Our shop is in Delray Beach, in the middle of the South Florida yachting corridor, and we work the yards and marinas from Miami through Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Stuart.
Beyond that, we pattern aboard and ship. Vessels in the Med for the season, in the Bahamas or the Caribbean, or in a yard outside Florida are all workable: we measure the vessel, build in Delray Beach, and ship the finished pieces to meet the boat. For crews who want to handle the install themselves, pieces arrive labelled by location and ready to fit.

Superyacht Upholstery FAQ
Can you complete a refit inside our yard period?
That is how we scope every project. We pattern the vessel in one visit and give you the fabrication window in writing before you commit, so the dates are agreed rather than discovered. 3D measurement and digital patterning are what make a single fitting visit realistic, and they are the reason we do not come back mid-build asking to re-measure. Tell us the window at first contact and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable rather than accepting it and hoping.
Do you work on vessels outside Florida?
Yes. We pattern aboard wherever the vessel is, build in our Delray Beach shop, and ship the finished pieces to meet the boat, including to the Mediterranean, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Pieces arrive labelled by location so crew can fit them if you would rather not carry an install team on the schedule. Vessels in South Florida yards we handle dockside from start to finish.
What does Superyacht upholstery cost?
It is scoped per vessel, because the range across a Superyacht refit is far too wide for a published number to be useful. What we can tell you is what drives it: total piece count, how much of the work is exterior versus interior, whether substrates and foam are reusable, stitching and detailing specification, and whether a house fabric has to be sourced rather than built in our standard Sunbrella Horizon. You get a fixed price with the full specification written out after we pattern the vessel.
Can you match a fabric the owner or designer has already specified?
Yes, and we would rather you tell us early. We build in Sunbrella Horizon by default because it is the best marine upholstery material available, but where an owner, interior designer or management company has specified a house fabric, leather or textile, we source it and build to it. What we do not do is substitute something similar without saying so.
Can you handle exterior shade and exterior seating together?
That is one of the better reasons to use us. Canvas and upholstery come off the same bench in the same shop, so sun pads, cockpit seating, awnings, weather covers and Superyacht Sunshades can be specified as one package against one colour reference. Vessels that source those separately almost always end up with exterior surfaces that do not quite match, because two shops matched to the same reference at different times.
Who do you normally deal with on a project?
Captains, first officers, chief stews and management companies, and occasionally an owner's rep or interior designer. We are used to working to a specification handed down rather than selling to the person paying, and to reporting progress in the way a captain needs it for a refit schedule. If an owner wants to be in the fabric decision we will make that easy, and if they want it handled without them we will do that instead.
