Jupiter Boat Upholstery, From a Shop Down the Road

Jupiter Marine builds in Palm Beach County, and so do we. That matters less for sentiment than for logistics: your boat and our shop are in the same county, which means dockside measuring and installation without a travel day attached to the quote.

It also means we see a lot of these boats. Jupiter builds a heavier, better-finished fishing boat than most of the category, and the owners tend to keep them. Boats that get kept are boats that need seating replaced eventually, and a Jupiter is worth doing properly because the rest of the boat justifies it.

We are not affiliated with Jupiter Marine International. We build upholstery that fits their boats.

No travel day in the quote

Most marine upholstery quotes on a boat in northern Palm Beach County carry a travel allowance, because most of the shops bidding are in Broward or Miami-Dade. Ours does not, and on a full package that is a real line item rather than a rounding error.

More usefully, being close means we can come look at the boat quickly when you are deciding, and come back if something needs checking. On a full package that involves a dozen pieces and a color decision you will live with for a decade, being able to see a sample against your actual gelcoat in daylight is worth more than it sounds.

We work the marinas from Stuart down through Jupiter, North Palm Beach, Riviera Beach and West Palm.

Mezzanine seating and the forward run

Jupiter puts real mezzanine and aft seating on boats that a lot of builders leave bare, which is part of why owners like them and part of why the upholstery bill is larger than on a stripped-down fishing hull.

The mezzanine cushions carry the same problem as any sportfish-style seating: sun all day, wet gear, coolers underneath, and drainage that has to actually work. We build those on closed-cell quick-dry foam with vented bases, because a mezzanine cushion that holds water is the piece that goes bad first and smells before it looks bad. Faces are Sunbrella Horizon and every seam is sewn with PTFE thread, which matters most on the pieces that sit in full sun all day.

The forward coaming run and bow lounge are the other significant footage. On the 34 and up, doing the forward run and the mezzanine together is usually the sensible package, with the leaning post added if it has gone at the same time.

Jupiters we build for

  • 26, 30 and 32. Bolsters, leaning post and bow cushions, typically a single-visit package.
  • 34, 38 and 380LS. The most common Jupiters we see. Full exterior packages including mezzanine.
  • 40, 41SB and 43. Long forward runs, larger helm assemblies, console interior and berth cushions included.

Questions

Jupiter Boat Upholstery FAQ

How much does it cost to reupholster a Jupiter 34?

A full exterior package on a 34, covering the forward coaming run, bow lounge and filler, helm and leaning post assembly, and mezzanine seating, generally runs $12,000 to $18,000. Adding console interior work pushes it higher. Bolster footage and whether the mezzanine substrates need rebuilding are the two variables that move the number most, and both are settled at the measuring visit before you get a fixed price.

Do you charge travel to come to Jupiter or Stuart?

No. Our shop is in Delray Beach, which puts most Palm Beach and Martin County marinas inside an easy drive, and we do not add a travel allowance for the corridor from Stuart south. Shops bidding your boat from Broward or Miami-Dade generally do, which is worth checking when you compare quotes on a full package.

Why does the mezzanine seating fail before everything else?

Drainage. Mezzanine cushions sit in direct sun all day, take wet gear and spray, and usually have coolers or storage underneath that traps moisture against the base. If the foam is not closed-cell and the base is not vented and drained, water sits in the cushion and the foam breaks down from the inside. It goes soft, then it holds a smell, and by then the vinyl on top still looks serviceable. We rebuild those with quick-dry foam and vented bases so the same thing does not happen again.

Can you match new seating to the canvas already on the boat?

Yes. We build canvas and upholstery in the same shop, so we can match new cushions to an existing Sunshade, T-top canvas or enclosure rather than getting approximately close. If the canvas is also aging, doing both together costs less than doing them a year apart and the boat ends up reading as one piece rather than two projects.
